Maybot Run’s Beta Breakthrough

The Maybot Run beta has been going on for nearly 2 weeks now on both Google Play (Android) and Steam (PC). With the release date of 19th October 2017 fast approaching what has changed and what have we learnt?

We’ve had a great response from the Maybot Run beta testers, loads of people have played the various versions of Maybot Run and given us some really useful feedback and suggestions. Initially the game went out on Steam with quite a few bugs that were not noticeable on our systems. Firstly Tesla ゴジラ Gaming did a Twitch/Mixer stream where we watched. After an amazing run through the first level and defeating the first boss, Ethics-bot, he fell through the floor at the start of the second level.

Maybot in her ‘ultimate form’ takes on the first boss, Ethics-bot

We got straight on to Ste from Bare Knuckle Development and he quickly sorted the problem. Batprince then made a Youtube video that showed us pretty much the whole game in slow-mo. The game slows down during tutorial sections and for comedic effect in certain buildings. For Batprince, however, it never sped up again. We were amazed to see him persist with the game in this state and his video was ridiculously funny. After a few hours we fixed the issue only to be told by beta testers on the Steam Community Hub that our Steam leader-boards weren’t working. We were quickly on it, but trying to recreate the issue proved impossible on our systems. Over a few days we completely rebuilt our Steam leader-board systems constantly asking the beta testers for feedback and eventually a fix that worked for everyone was released.

No More Bugs

Once all the bugs were fixed we started to try to implement ideas that players wanted. Some players complained that the loading screens did not give them enough time to read the quotes. Others said that the loading screens took too long for a 2d game. To try and make everyone happy we added a ‘press to continue’ button on the loading screen. It appears once loading has finished (usually takes about 1 second). Players either press a button to start the game or finish reading the quote first. We added a ‘restart level’ button to the game over screen after a lot of requests for it.

Maybot’s Prettier than Ever

During the beta we also added loads of new content. We improved the visuals and created some new baddies. The frack bombs were scaled up and the words removed after reports that the words on them were not readable and looked blurry as the game moved. The hilarious Brown Brexit baddy was added to level 1, the ripsaw baddy was added to level 2, and the fast homeless missile baddy was added to level 3. Rooney created loads of new and interesting backgrounds. From a ‘posh’ restaurant called ‘La Snob’, to a car park showing the pay-gap, to a pleb fighting arena where commoners fight for food. Even the sky was changed to show the sun stripes in the Maybot Run logo. Maybot Run is now looking and playing better than ever and almost ready for its release on 19th October.

Here are a few of our favourite quotes from our Maybot Run beta testers and Youtubers:

Its refreshing to see and infinite runner with a bit of depth” – usaryan (Steam Player)

Maybot Run Release Date Confirmed

19th October 2017 is May Day

We have a release date for Maybot Run, our ridiculously funny infinite runner with a serious message. It’s Thursday 19th October 2017 so mark it in your diaries. The Steam, Itch.io, and Google Play versions will all launch at the same time. The beta has been going really well. Testers have uncovered numerous bugs which we’ve fixed. They’ve also come up with some great ideas for extra content or further developments of our ideas. One such suggestion was to put in Lee Nelson’s arm waving a P45 as a baddy. We’ve put this in the game now and it’s absolutely hilarious.

Our First First Impressions Video

Maybot Run got its first Youtube first impressions video by a Youtuber called Tesla ゴジラ Gaming. It’s of a very early beta version of the game but it has some really funny moments and gives you a listen to Electric Fan Death’s amazingly catchy sound track.

Maybot Run’s Serious Message

Maybot run is a very funny game and has a lot of depth for an infinite runner. It also has a serious political message. The game shows an exaggeration of the future for the UK under Tory rule. In Maybot Run Maybot runs her way to dystopia, where the rich have everything and the poor have nothing. She taxes the people and reduces tax for businesses. She brings fox hunting back. She asset strips the NHS and does nothing to improve working conditions for doctors and nurses. She increases student debt and forces graduates to start working life with more than double the average household debt. She continues to segregate children via the archaic education system. She further reduces the number of police officers. She destroys the UK economy even more and plummets the pound further into free-fall via her bonkers Brexit uncertainty. And oh yeah, she turns people into zombies, that’s the exaggeration or is it…

Maybot loves pressing ‘The Red Button’ – it quits the game

The game is calling for people to stand-up and be counted. For people not to sit back and let their country be destroyed by an elitist, corrupt government. There is a real alternative in Labour and Jeremy Corbyn. An ethical, moral man who wants to try and solve the problems in UK society. He wants to tackle issues in a way that favours people and not companies. He and the the Labour Party are for the many and not the elite few. So, while the satire in Maybot Run is hilarious, it is all there to shed light on the true damage the Tories are doing to the UK.

From Beta to Release

If you have a beta copy of Maybot Run thanks for all the feedback and I hope you continue playing the game, unlocking characters, upgrading Maybot, and setting higher and higher scores. For those who are not beta testers the game will be even more ridiculous, hilarious, and polished by its release date of 19th October 2017.  You can grab your copy on Steam, Itch.io, or Google Play and help Maybot run a country into dystopia.

Maybot Run Beta Trailer

The Maybot Run beta gameplay trailer is finally ready for viewing and live on the Bloodline Games Youtube channel.

The game is coming along really well. Have a gander at the trailer and see what you think.

Maybot Run Beta Trailer (gameplay)

The release date is set for October, although the exact day is not known yet. We’ve made loads of progress since the last update. Almost everything is now in place and the game is hilarious at times.

Watch the video to see some of the unlockable characters, upgrades, and absolute ridiculousness.

The trailer features a modified version of the game’s theme tune written and composed by Electric Fan Death. The track itself is really funny and fits with the manic feel of the game screaming “RUN!” in a nutty high-pitched voice. The trailer gives a sneak peak at a few of the extra characters. Revealing a reanimated Thatcher’s corpse driving a dragster coffin and a pig-Cameron hybrid known as ‘Dodgy-Davebot’. In the trailer video you can see some of the characters’ ultimate forms. Maybot becomes her true robotic form ‘The Dream Crusher’. Majorbot jumps on a chopper and blasts away with a shotgun a la Arnie in Terminator 2.

If you look closely in some of the backgrounds behind the unemployed teachers, and beggar apprentices you can see crumbling London landmarks as Maybot gets closer to her dystopia. A few special moves are shown with Trump helping Maybot out of a hole with his small hands. The newspaper ‘Daily Pain’ is used as a right wing media shield protecting Maybot from the onslaught.

Have a look at a few screenshots to see our progress:

Well we’ve better get back to the game it won’t make itself, not long until you can have a play on it too.

Progress on Maybot Run

Maybot Run is coming along well, loads of progress made and the game is feeling really good to play.

We’ve enrolled Bare Knuckle Development to program the game and Electric Fan Death to do the sound and music. Most of the features we mentioned in the announcement post are now working.  We’ve added a pretty complex scoring system that takes into account, days survived, tax and wheat collected, policies passed, expenses claimed, and a few other things. This should allow for some interesting leader-board competition. The game is already feeling good to play with some really funny moments. We’ve added 2 difficulty settings, Soft-Brexit (normal) and Hard-Brexit (hard). The quit button has been replaced with ‘The Red Button’ and in game there is a constant news feed that changes with in-game events. Have a look at a few early screenshots:

Maybot grabs the tax in this Maybot Run screenshot.

Sliding under a tractor is fun in this Maybot screenshot.

Trump helps Maybot bigly with his small hands in this Maybot screenshot.

We still have a lot to do. Sound needs putting in, bosses need building, particle effects need adding, and everything needs polishing but we are definitely making good progress. We’ve also decided to publish the game on Steam and Itch.io for PC, and Google Play for Android. We haven’t set a date yet but as soon as we do we’ll be sure to post it here.

Our First Game: Maybot Run

After about a week of thinking, talking and planning we have finally come to the decision about our first game. We are plaesed to announce that our first game will be a funny, satirical, political infinite runner called Maybot Run.

The game will take a tongue in cheek look at the political situation in the UK. You’ll play as Maybot, a robot that landed in the UK in 2016 and took over as an unelected dictator. You have to run, jump, slide, and shoot your way through hordes of angry ordinary working people to create a strong and stable dystopia. Battle bosses taking down the coalition of chaos ‘Morality & Hope’.  Bribe your way to unleash policies. Collect as much tax as possible. Get votes to spend on upgrades and new characters. Grab as much wheat as you can in the wheat fields to increase your naughtiness and unleash your true robot form, ‘The Dream Crusher’.

In the game Maybot will travel through a number of levels from the ‘Naughty Wheat-Fields’, to the ‘Hopeful City’ and finally to ‘Maytopia’. As you progress and your elitist policies are enforced the world around you will become harsher. Ordinary working people will try to bring you down. Foxes will hunt you. Public sector workers will use all at their disposal to stop you in your path to the ultimate dystopia. Maybot and her gang of cronies will need lightning fast reactions and a hunger for upgrades to get to Maytopia and run the country into the ground once and for all.
